The PWD creates baby canals for smooth flow of the river but experts warn that it is a terrible idea

There have been many thousands of crores of rupees spent on attempts to restore the Cooum river that cuts across Chennai city.

Now, in an effort to stop debris and garbage and to help the river flow unhindered, the Public Works Department (PWD) are creating 'baby canals' in the river.
