Two Indian Air Force helicopters are currently on a recce in the Bandipur-Mudumalai forest region. The contiguous tiger reserves in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, respectively, caught fire on 23 February.
The helicopters have been provided with water to curb the fire from both the Bandipur side as well as Mudumalai. Each helicopter can carry thousands of litres of water.
According to an official, the fire in Bandipur had been brought under control late last night. But due to heavy winds this morning, it has spread again. “We are now worried about the Mudumalai forest because it is spreading,” the official said.
