Watch: Wildlife Being Killed But No Data On Arrests Made

The Forest Department hardly complains, emboldening farmers to poison wild animals in the Western Ghats

Along the Western Ghats, human have destroyed forests and created farmlands and built resorts.

When wild animals venture out of forests in search of food, they destroy crops in these farmlands.

Frustrated farmers poison these animals. As a result, scores of elephants, peacocks, monkeys and other animals die. In some cases, illegal electric fences are put up by farmers. The current is large enough to kill even elephants.

The Forest Department of Tamil Nadu, however, does not file cases against these farmers or investigate who has poisoned these animals. Very rarely is action taken against those who put up illegal electric fences on their lands.
